Why do I write?  Why do I choose this thing over some other thing?  It’s a simple enough question, and the answer is actually also a relatively simple one.  The odd truth, however, is that the answer is something that has guided me towards writing ever since the beginning.  And while the reason may not seem a particularly unique one, it’s also still a very personal one.  You see, I write because I am good at it; moreover, because doing it and being good at doing it is something that just plain brings me enjoyment.  On the surface that might not seem a personal reason at all, and I can totally see why one might think that way.  But what seems like an impersonal reason is actually – and somewhat paradoxically – guided by a very universal process composed of the utmost of individualized decisions relating to one, special activity.  Whether that activity be writing, playing a sport, playing an instrument, or really any number of other activities, this process all begins the same way: with the first moment you actually realize that you are, in fact, very good at a particular activity.
